A Weekend of Celebration at Camp Forest Springs

image

This past Friday night was Counselor Graduation at Camp Forest Springs. Pictured above is our daughter Kerra with her “class” of counselors as they finished the week of SuperHIGH camp. All of them completed the Counselor Training Institute program. It is a seven-week program that starts with two weeks of intensive training and then five weeks of youth camps. It is all done with excellence and the the counselors can even earn college credit for this! It was 24 years ago that Paul graduated from this same program.

We’re very proud of Kerra for completing the program and receiving her diploma.

All of the counselors are paired up for the summer. While each has their own cabin and group of campers, they share responsibilities and experiences with a Co-counselor. Pictured above is Kerra and her “Co,” Christi Dittus. The friendships and fellowship run deep when you serve side-by-side like this!

Our whole family is proud of Kerra!

Pictured here is Jon Klassy. Jon is working at Camp Forest Springs as the vehicle maintenance specialist. Paul really encouraged Jon to step out of that role this summer and become a counselor. Jon did a great job! He even got to be Kyle’s counselor for SuperHIGH. Jon and Paul met weekly this past year in a mentoring relationship.

If you’ve read this far then you deserve to know this next bit of information… Kerra has a boyfriend!  His name is Gerardo Santiago Dominguez. His friends call him “G.” He is from Guadalajara, Mexico. They met last summer at Camp Forest Springs. Gerardo is working at camp again this summer.

Last December, Gerardo asked us if he and Kerra could take some time to get to know each other. They did and this past May, he asked our permission to date our daughter. We have really appreciated their respect for their parents. Pray for them as they enjoy a dating relationship. Both Gerardo and Kerra desire to honor the Lord in this special time of life. They are seeking His direction for their futures.
