Calvary en Español
Calvary en Español is the name of our Spanish church here in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Last Sunday night, I had the privilege of sharing with the church about our upcoming ministry in Mexico at El Monte. It was good to be able to explain to the whole group why we as a family have been attending there this last year. It was the first time I had a formal audience (about 100 people) while speaking completely in Spanish.
I was pretty nervous under the pressure of having to concentrate not only on what I wanted to say, but having to work so hard at how to say it.
I know I wanted to say more, but some of the words just wouldn’t come. At one point, some in the audience had to help me with a word because I couldn’t remember how to say it. But overall the presentation seemed to go well.
Attending a Spanish speaking church is a requirement for our language studies. It has been a great experience. As the year has gone on, we have been able to understand more and more of the songs and messages. It is fun to worship in a different language and we really enjoy our church.
Several weeks ago our pastor asked if we would share our ministry with the congregation. When the date was set, neither he nor I realized that it would happen on the night that he began a new sermon series on the “Journey of Faith.” God’s plan was perfect and His name is glorified as we had the privilege of sharing some of the story in our personal journey of faith.
