CCI Mexico National Convention--Part 2

Here’s a great picture of the whole group of people who attended CCI Mexico’s convention. It was great to be among so many who share a passion for reaching children and youth for Christ using Christian camping! I was also encouraged at this year’s convention that there was more talk of programs for adults as well.

Saturday and Sunday’s schedules were filled with workshops, activities, and general sessions. Bob Sabean, a missionary with LAM has worked in Christian camping in Latin America for more than 40 years. He was the main speaker and did several workshops.

Bob has contributed a wealth of information and knowledge as well as years of direction and influence to CCI Latin America. It was a real privilege to meet him and to learn from him.

Fellow WEC Mexico team member David Mitchell is seated in the center of the picture above.  Roxanne and I really look forward to working with David and his wife Linda at El Monte.

Between workshops there were some fun group activities to keep the blood circulating.

The convention theme was “Koinonia”

There were numerous opportunities to visit and fellowship fulfilling the theme of the conference. This was the first CCI Mexico convention that I didn’t need someone translating everything for me. I really enjoyed being able to just walk up to people and converse with them. My Spanish is still broken and comes a little slow, but I understand most of what I hear and am able to communicate my thoughts.

I also had some good opportunities to talk with our WEC mission field leader and fellow worker at El Monte, Ed Somerville.

On this trip, fellow RGBI language student, Eric Lockamy and I built a foundation for friendship and ministry in Mexico. I was glad to be able to introduce Eric to CCI Mexico this year. He will finish language school in May and start his ministry at Campamento Maranatha in Rio Verde, Mexico next summer. We’ll be about 5 hours apart in distance, but I’m sure we’ll keep in close contact over the years in our ministries.

Yehaw!  I’m so glad you were there, Paul!  Way to go, Spanish Speaker!  Hope you all have a safe trip North… I’ll be south of the border smile
