Fridays

Ok, we don’t go out to eat every Friday… but today we did!

Pictured with us are some of our new neighbors at RGBI, John and Laura Niemeyer.  They’re on their way to serve in the country of Chile but are just beginning language school. They have various classes with our son Peter in first semester.

We took off with the Niemeyers for lunch out today at the Mesquite Grill here in Edinburg, Texas where we enjoyed a delicious meal of “Botana.” Botana is a famous dish here in the Rio Grande Valley.  It’s a beef and chicken fajita with beans, cheese, guacamole, tomatoes, peppers and sour cream, served with Spanish rice and fresh warm tortillas!  I was going to take a picture, but I forgot to before we devoured it.  Sorry.  It was beautiful.

Friday afternoons...

Our normal class schedule runs from 8:15-12:00 each weekday.  Then Monday-Thursday, we each have a one-on-one tutor hour in the afternoon with one of the Latino Bible school students.  The nights are filled with homework.  By the time Friday rolls around, we are ready for an afternoon off.

Last February as we were just starting language school I wrote on our blog, “I’m finding that by Friday, we are exhausted.  As a week goes on I’m sleeping harder each night and by Friday, I’m ready for the weekend to rest.” This is still true and maybe all the more now that we are in second semester.

Our time is flying by, we’re already 1/4 of the way through this semester.  We are encouraged that we can understand a lot more Spanish (nearly all of our classes are taught completely in Spanish, we go to chapel in Spanish twice a week, and to a Spanish speaking church).  We are becoming more “conversational”, but it is still a challenge to put it all together and say it correctly.  It takes a lot of brain power!--more than we have at times. smile

We sure would appreciate it if you would pray for us right now as you read this. Pray that the Lord will give us the strength needed and the ability to understand, recall, and use everything we’ve been studying.  We were reminded and encouraged this week by a staff member here at RGBI that God has people in Mexico that are waiting to hear the Gospel from us in their own language.  We need to keep working!
