Great Pictures but Where are the People?

Someone looking at our website recently asked this question. It’s a great question so I thought I would use this blog post to answer it by posting pictures of some of the great people we interact with here in our missionary training.

We spend each morning, Monday through Friday in class. Various veteran missionaries are our teachers covering a variety of subjects like who we are in Christ, major religions of the world, working on a team, finances, church planting, spiritual warfare, etc.

As you can see, we have a very diverse group.

There are Koreans, Americans, a man from Venezuela, and a man from Puerto Rico. Three of us are preparing for Mexico, one couple is preparing to serve in Africa. Others are preparing for Europe, Asia and some for the Middle East.

Roxanne and I each have mentors here and we meet weekly with them as well. Mark and Caroline Asp are veteran missionaries who have served in Colombia and in Mexico and are now at the US Sending Base.

In addition to classes and meetings, we also have a variety of work assignments at the Sending Base.

Roxanne’s normal duties are to help manage the clothing and other miscellaneous gift-in-kind donations that come in for the mission. This week she also worked on supper dishes each evening.

I get work in Maintenance three afternoons each week. Some days the kids work with us. On the days that the kids aren’t working with us, I have had to face my fears and climb up about five stories high on the scaffolding to scrape and paint at the top of the main building we call the Castle. You may have to look hard, but I’m up there by the top window waving at you. I actually started to feel more comfortable as I worked up there for several hours yesterday.

Through this experience and some other things happening right now, I know the Lord is wanting me to face my fears and overcome them in His strength. I’m thankful for these challenging and even scary experiences because I know God is at work preparing me! Recently, God gave me this verse in Hebrews 10:38-39 “But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him. But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.”

I must admit, I get a little teary eyed & also encouraged by reading about what God is doing in your lives. You may be learning quite a bit & being challenged but, I also know you are having an impact in the lives of those that are in training with you.  Your willingness to be stretched is a challenge to me at this time.  Thanks for sharing your fears.  And thanks for continueing to share what God is doing.  Much love to the whole Wilson fam!
