Kyle Leaves Home

image

Eighteen years old, high school graduate, summer job in the States, college in the fall

Kyle left home today for the States.  We knew this day would come, but it came all too fast!  We said the goodbyes this morning and then together we reviewed Hebrews 13:5b-6 which says, “...God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”

After a time of prayer together, Kyle and I drove to Cuernavaca to catch the bus to the Mexico City airport.

Kyle and I ate lunch together and then he filled out his visa paperwork.

We spent two hours together sharing final thoughts and then the time came for Kyle to go through immigration and security.

We hugged for a long time and shed some tears.  Sorry, no pictures of that.

Then he turned and walked through the glass doors.

I wish this last picture would have turned out better but it is burned in my memory very clearly.  I’m finding it to be a pretty tough time letting go of my son.  Maybe it’s partly due to our being here in Mexico and him leaving home to return to life in the States--it feels really far away.  At this point, we don’t know when we’ll see each other again.  We would love to be able to go and help him move into college in August or see him at Thanksgiving or Christmas, but as of now only God knows the plan.

We know that the Lord is leading him and are very glad that he will be serving at Camp Forest Springs this summer on summer staff.  He’s been accepted at Emmaus Bible College for the fall.

Will you join us in praying for Kyle as he goes through these transitions in life?  Pray for us too because we’re all transitioning!  Thanks.

Thanks for sharing this post about a special, yet difficult, time in your lives as parents.  Time goes by so fast.  In 10 years (Lord willing) we will be sending Jordan off to college as well.  It’s hard to imagine what that will really be like.  It’s extra hard for missionary parents to “let go” of their children.

I will pray for you all right now as you go through this transition.

I can feel your pain. However, there is no other place I’d want to leave my kids than in GOD’s Almighty hands.  Prayin’ for ya.  Can’t wait to have him around here for awhile.

Do we ever know what it feels like to give your child back to God!  This picture of Kyle reminds me of 3 years ago when early in the morning we drove Joshua to Lambert Airport.  His journey was to leave for Mexico and travel to Nicaraugua, two flights to get there, and trusting that the person that was to pick him up would be there when he arrived.  We were letting him go at 20 years old to another country, different language, unknown circumstances and surroundings, and a life that would teach him to trust in the Lord while he finds his way.  Tears filled my eyes watching Kyle walk through those gates.  It was reliving the most important moment in Joshua’s life.  From that moment, as parents, we learned to stay close to the Father and pray hard.  Thank you for sharing...........
