Lest you think we worked the whole time…
Working at El Monte is hot and hard and the days fly by quickly while progress is being made. But being in Mexico is a total experience! Being able to experience new things and be stretched as a person is part of why one takes a trip like this. Things “foreign” can become “familiar” as we grow, and of course this becomes a spiritual lesson as well!
Here’s a view of some of the varied experiences that we built into the evenings after our day’s work was done.
One night, we drove up the road to visit the ruins of an old Spanish hacienda. If you know the history of Mexico, this is part of what brought about the Mexican Revolution of 1910. Important aspects of that revolution started right here in our state of Morelos, Mexico.
The area surrounding the hacienda is farmland including animals, sugarcane, and a banana plantation.
Another night, those who wanted to went caving here on the property!
On Thursday night, we had the group over to our house for supper, a pool party, and volleyball with some local Mexican youth.
On the last day, the group enjoyed some of the fruit of their labor rappelling down to the freshly cleared area along the rock wall.

Great post Paul.
Excellent photos.
I suppose that when you are not working, playing volleyball, swimming, caving, grilling, or rappelling, you are faithfully working on Spanish homework
Glad to hear that your summer has been fun and stretching.
See ya soon.
