Our Easter Trip to Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico

Having Thursday and Friday off for Easter, we took a driving trip into Mexico to visit our friends and see Monterrey. We stayed with our good friends Edgar and Linda Martell. They were great hosts and showed us many wonderful sights around Monterrey. We enjoyed good food, great friends, and amazing beauty.

One of the major landmarks of Monterrey is “Cerro de la Silla.” The literal translation would be, “Hill of the Chair” ...it’s a very big hill!

The historic Governor’s Palace.

The new River Walk is three kilometers long. We only saw a small portion of this beautiful area. It has different features around every corner.

Our tour group included two classmates from language school, Karla Altmaier who was visiting from Camp Forest Springs in Wisconsin, our family and the Martells.

Monterrey at night! Que Bonita!

Notice the moon coming up to the left of “Cerro de la Silla.” It was a very beautiful night with the temperature in the mid 70s.

Chapinque

(Cha-ping-kae) is a nature park where we enjoyed a picnic lunch up on the mountain.

Below with Joelle is our classmate, Tim Bryce, who is a missionary with NAIM and lives in Washington state. Tim is studying Spanish because he and his wife take numerous missionary trips into Mexico every year with Native American people. His wife Debbie is presently back in Washington with their daughter who just gave birth to twins!

With Kerra is Amanda Clayton. She is from Michigan and will be working with Spanish speaking women in a crisis pregnancy center there.

Karla Altmaier came all the way from Wisconsin to visit her sister and brother-in-law who winter here in Texas. It was a real treat to be able to take her with us for these few days in Mexico!

Cola de Caballo

or “Horsetail Falls” is another scenic landmark near Monterrey.

The picture below is of our whole group with the Martells and some of their family members. We had a great time of fellowship together in the Martell home with these believers.

Of all of my trips into Mexico, this was my first time driving across the border. I wanted the experience of obtaining all the proper papers, buying car insurance, as well as driving in many different conditions. I even got to visit with a police officer. We had a great trip and we thank God who provided many rich and wonderful experiences as He continues to prepare us for life and ministry in Mexico. We want to give special thanks to our friends Edgar and Linda for everything they did to make our time there a very enjoyable event to remember.

My post did not take from this morning so there must have been some technical difficulty!  Monterrey sure looks clean of course maybe the rain helps it look nicer than some of the cities I have been to in Mexico.  Thanks for all the descriptions on the pictures as I saw most of them on Kerra’s Facebook page so now I know where they all were.

We are at ACE convention and having a great time but missing Kyle.  We are still praying for your Mom.
