Our Last Days in Ticuman for the Summer of 2008--Part 2

Here’s a pictorial overview of our last days that were filled with activities at El Monte.

WEC Day

Many times when short-term teams are visiting Mexico, a “WEC Day” is hosted at El Monte.  It’s a full day of fellowship to work and worship together with the WEC missionaries and the team(s).  Our second to last week at El Monte, there was a short-term team from the UK as well as a combined team from Pennsylvania and New York.

We found a fun connection with the lead pastor for the New York group.  He knows two different staff members at Camp Forest Springs and he knew my sister Jill and her husband Greg.  Again, what a small world!

Kyle and Joelle along with Susanna Mitchell and Becky Sommerville were asked to lead the worship time for the team.  What a great experience for them!  I must say, they did a great job and we look forward to more of this in the future!

First-Aid Course

The last week we were there, I took a three-day First-Aid course ALL in Spanish!  I understood a lot, but still had to ask for translation help several times.  It was encouraging how much I can understand, but this experience helped me realize that I do still need to finish language school.  It was good for me to realize how much more I need to know.  God used it to help me accept the reality of heading back to school this fall.

Camp Retreat at El Monte

Several times during our summer, there were small camp retreat groups that used El Monte.  I took pictures of this event during our last week.

Though we weren’t involved in the leadership of this event, it was great to see the onsite camp ministry begining!

Opportunity to Preach

It’s not a very good picture, but I was invited to preach in a local church for the Wednesday night service--also during our last week there.  It was an honor to be asked.  I did speak in English with fellow WEC team member David Mitchell as my translator.

Cooling off in the Pool

We also enjoyed cooling off in the pool at our house those last few afternoons!
