Our Year Begins at Rio Grande Bible Institute

We are now in the second week of our language study here at Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburg, Texas. Roxanne and I will be here for both the spring and fall semesters in 2008. Our daughter Kerra was able to test-out of her first semester so she will graduate from the language school this spring!

I’ve included some pictures in this blog entry to give you an idea of what life is like here as we begin.

This is our home for the year. Our on-campus apartment is the one on the right at the end of the building. It is a two-story with three bedrooms and 1 and 1/2 baths. We are very thankful for this great place for our family to live.

We brought our two cars and a trailer with us to Texas. Our ultimate plan is that only the Suburban and trailer will go with us into Mexico.

Here our kids are hanging out with some of their new friends in our back yard. Once again, we are thankful that God has provided kids the same ages as our kids for friendship. Some of them are missionary language student kids and others are staff kids from RGBI.

As you can see, conditions here are rather dry! I guess that’s normal for this time of year. We had our first real rain last night including a good thunderstorm.

More friends.

Last Saturday, the Winter-Texans that volunteer here at RGBI invited all the missionary language students to a picnic. We have enjoyed meeting people from all over the country who come to “winter” here serving the Lord. There are a lot of projects getting done at the school this time of year. It seems the best part of all is the fellowship that they enjoy as they work together.

Please do pray for us!

Though I have studied Spanish in the past, Roxanne has never taken a foreign language. This is an “immersion program” and as one of our fellow students said, “they just don’t tell you how long they’re gonna hold you under!”

We are being stretched, but learning a lot already. We go to classes all morning every day, come home for lunch, go back to spend an hour with language tutors, come home and study the rest of the afternoon and evening. Roxanne is studying the most.

I have much more to tell you, but will save it for future blogging.

I bet you are missing the snow already.  Not to mention the COLD weather.  Our team is up to 13 now and I am looking forward to a trip to Mexico in March.  It will be fun to see you there some day soon.

Hello!  Had to stop by your site to get all caught up on you guys.  Thanks for posting all that you did.  It’s great to be able to see and imagine you all in Texas and what you are experiencing.  We will remember to pray for you in regards to the language study.  That’s so incredible that Kerra is able to be there doing the program with you.
