Speaking of “buzz”…Our Second Cabin is Underway!
We’re moving forward at El Monte with the second cabin! Though we don’t have all the money in hand, we are building with what we have. In fact, the day these pictures were taken, we received an email from a friend promising another $6000+ USD that will be committed to this project.
We have enough money to build a retaining wall, put in the foundation, interior walls, and septic system.
You might be thinking that this doesn’t make much sense, but it does if you know what’s coming to El Monte in July...More than 500 campers over the course of the month! One group from Cuernavaca is bringing 250 for a week-long camp.
If you haven’t guessed already, the interior walls of the cabin will include the bathrooms and showers. With only one cabin completed, we will need more bathrooms and showers for those staying in tents. We had discussed building a small shower house near the swimming pool, but decided to put the money toward our second cabin and move along in our overall plan. We’re praising God for His provision to this point.
You’ll notice that these workers are hired local men. One thing we’re doing different with this cabin is experimenting with a construction system that will make it easier to build a cabin with volunteers and work teams. Our finished product and cost for materials will be about the same, but we would save a lot of money building even part of the cabins with volunteers.
In the overall site plan for El Monte, there are more than 30 camp cabins to build! Imagine if a church would decide to provide a cabin and then send a work team to construct it. If this new building system meets our expectations, this idea would be a real possibility.

We must do all things by faith. Stepping out by starting the cabin with the available funds has built many a cabin at Camp Forest Springs. Continue trusting His leading! Thank you Lord!
