Sundays

All the missionary language students of RGBI are assigned to Spanish speaking churches around the area. We are especially blessed to be able to attend Calvary en Español.

Our Spanish service is scheduled at 5 pm, allowing us the privilege of attending English church on Sunday mornings.

Calvary is a large church in the area. Below is a picture of the main worship center where we attend the morning English services. Don’t let the few cars in the photo mislead you.

Here is a Google Earth picture of the Calvary campus. It’s an out-of-date picture because they have a brand new children’s center constructed in the center of the property that is not shown here.

There are three morning services in English and one on Sunday nights in Spanish. The English and the Spanish services have different preachers, but the same message. It is helpful for us to be able to hear the message in English in the morning and then have either the same text or the same theme in Spanish that evening.

Our Spanish Church Pastor

This is Rolando Aguirre. He is an excellent preacher. He comes from Colombia and is a graduate of the Rio Grande Bible Institute. He knows we’re learning to speak Spanish so he has vowed not to speak to us in English--it slips once in a while. He tells us that when he was a student here, he was also a tutor for missionaries learning Spanish.

We get home on Sunday nights about 7 pm, just in time for a teen girls Bible study to take place in our apartment. This one is all in English and is lead by some of the single gals in the missionary language school. We appreciate their care for our kids.

I apologize for the blurry pictures. Our camera is starting to act up and doesn’t always want to focus.

Thanks for insight into to your church involvement.  I am sure that the English sure helps you experience the Spanish.  How was church this summer all in Spanish right?  Stay dry!
