FAQ

What is WEC's financial ethos?

Our financial policy centers on a simple reliance on God to provide everything we need. We aim to base financial decisions on God's leading rather than fixed budgets and seemingly closed doors. (Matthew 6:33; Philippians 4:11-13, 19 and Matthew 28:19, 20)

How does WEC view the role of the sending church?

• The church is the primary agent for completing Christ's commission.

• The church identifies and prepares cross-cultural workers. Those who come from solid, active churches are generally best equipped to serve in cross-cultural settings.

• The church prays for its workers. Prayer opens doors, changes lives and establishes new churches through the power of the Holy Spirit. Our workers need adequate and informed prayer to be effective.

• The church supports its workers financially.

How do you determine a member's support level?

Onsite WEC ministry teams determine a base support and start-up figure for each new member that includes items such as:

• Housing

• Transportation

• Food

• Communication

• Utilities

• Start-up & furlough

• Ministry

• Language study

Does WEC provide benefits?

Many agencies provide a package of benefits that typically includes medical and life insurance, a retirement strategy, and sometimes, children's education. WEC operates differently. Like people who are self-employed, WEC members secure for themselves those medical and retirement strategies that best fit their particular situations. While WEC does not provide any of these benefits, it does give its members guidance and assistance in making decisions. Ultimately, the needs of all cross-cultural workers are met by God-prompted contributions from faithful support teams.

How do members raise their financial support?

As they share their vision for the world with churches, small groups and individuals, God faithfully provides prayer and financial support teams for WEC members. WEC does not make financial appeals.

Is it acceptable to inquire about a member's financial needs?

Yes. Simply ask the member directly or inquire through the WEC Finance Office.

Does WEC deduct a percentage of member support for administration?

No. WEC meets all of its administrative operating expenses from contributions so designated, as well as from undesignated contributions.

Do home staff workers receive a salary?

No. All home staff workers receive support in the same way as personnel abroad.

How do I make a contribution?

Make your check payable to "WEC International." Indicate your designations for specific persons, projects or areas on a separate sheet of paper. Send your contribution to WEC International and you will receive a tax-deductible receipt in return. Or you may simply donate online.

Can I make a contribution to a member who is from another country?

Yes. Clearly indicate the member's name and country where they serve and WEC will forward your gift and send you a tax-deductible receipt.

Can WEC set up automatic withdrawals for monthly contributions?

Yes. Contact the WEC Finance Director for details.

Can non-monetary contributions be receipted?

When requested by a donor, non-monetary contributions are acknowledged with an official letter of receipt that is acceptable to the IRS.

Are copies of WEC's financial statement available?

Yes. An independent certified public accountant audits WEC USA accounts annually, and copies of the report are available upon request.

If you have more questions about WEC's financial policy or the financial situation of a WEC member, feel free to contact the WEC Finance Director.
